This edition of the newsletter is a little different.
With it being the summer break, I thought I’d try something new.
Two weeks ago, I shared ten design-related things I’ve been enjoying recently.
Now it’s time for ten things that aren’t directly related to design.
1. Possibly your new favourite YouTube channel
Cercle is genius. This is how it works: take a world-class musician and put them in an incredible (often very remote) location. Then cover the area with microphones, video cameras and drones. This is the result:
2. Speaking of world-class musicians…
…check out my friend Norman’s new track:
3. Want a laugh?
You can’t go wrong with Conan O’Brien’s podcast. The episode with Harrison Ford was a recent delight:
4. Want some more laughs?
Adam Buxton’s podcast is another firm favourite of mine. I was crying with laughter at the end of this episode (around the one hour mark), when documentarian Louis Theroux lets loose with his impressive falsetto:
5. A hidden gem
I recently watched (and loved) this film. It’s a coming-of-age comedy, but here’s the twist: it’s set in medieval England. It’s sweet, well-acted and very funny:
6. A tough, beautiful film
Here’s another film that I saw recently. It’s also very well-acted (especially by the cast of children) but it’s not an easy watch. It unflinchingly depicts the poverty that exists in the shadow of Disney World:
7. It’s not all doom and gloom
Have you heard of Positive News? It’s the “online and print magazine for rigorous journalism about what’s going right”. Check it out for uplifting stories about how people, communities and organisations around the world are changing things for the better:
8. If in doubt, go for a walk
Honestly, this mantra has never failed me. Being outdoors always refreshes and resources me. Here are photos from two walks in two different French cities (Lyon and Marseille):
9. On repeat right now (part one)
10. On repeat right now (part two)
Thanks so much for reading! It’s been fun to share these with you.
I’m grateful to have you as a subscriber to this newsletter.
See you in a fortnight.
